It appears to me that Sarah Palin represents a narrowing of the Republican party that is going to continue for some time.
In regards to the 'talk radio' wing of the party I believe they have lost much of their voice due to Bush. Over and over again the talk radio folks speak to Carl Roves strategy of turning out the base plus 1% (the idea is that the conservative base is all you really need to win an election). If turnout was low and Obama had won then that may be the case, but it wasn't. Instead huge numbers voted for both Obama and McCain. The base was there but it wasn't enough. The independents really do matter.
If Ted Stephens actually wins reelection in the Senate (which looks quite possible) he most surely will be thrown out. This will lead to another election in which Palin is most likely to go for the job. Four years in the Senate and two as a Governer will put here in range for 2012. I think the republicans are going to give one last try to the 'culture war' strategy, most likely with her. If it fails in 2012 the more moderate republicans may eventually begin to take the party in a new direction. One thing is for sure, the Gingrich revolution is officially over.

Two more, both from the same congressional campaign of William Russell.
There was actually a live person on one of the calls. They asked if they could count on my support, I said 'it all depends', they said 'ok, thank you' and hung up (!?!) Not even going to try and pull me in? What's the deal? -

"Far left" on the current court means just right of center.
I fully agree.
Just got another call BTW, a pretty boring one for State Attorney General. -

Just got two more today!
Both were for McCain. It was actually my wife who was home when they called. One was from a group of pro-life priests. Not sure about the other one.
How many more until election day? Just have to wait and see ;) -

No sooner did I put down the phone when it rang again. Bill Russell for congress!
My wife pointed out that there is a huge Vote Russell sign about 100 feet from the Kingdom Hall. To bad you can't get a photo of the two in the same shot :( -
